The blizzard of 1978 is something I have been hearing about every winter since I moved to the Boston area almost 7 years ago. What made that blizzard particularly nasty was the fact that people where not prepared. This caused many to drive on the roadways and tragically perish in their vehicles from carbon monoxide poisoning as they ran the engine attempting to stay warm not knowing the snow was covering their car exhaust. Yesterday almost 35 years later to the day another monster blizzard blew in, thankfully though lessons had been learned from history and even though it was a spectacular storm people took lessons from the ’78 storm and also a well though out driving ban which no doubt saved at least some lives. I was able to go out in the aftermath of this today as the hardest of the storm hit overnight. Below are some photos from today’s walk around Salem Massachusetts – enjoy.
